GETTING STARTED

3 Basic Places to Start (Classroom, Practice, Exams)

Actually, there are four, but we will save Q&A for later! First, there are written and video classes for every SHSAT exam section and then, secondly, focused practice drills to practice the material learned in each instruction unit. The practice drill questions are separate from the third part, the exams. The exams are both useful practice and benchmark testing to gauge your scores, strengths, and weaknesses. One question we often get with so much content is, “Where do I begin?” We have tried to make that easier for you this season.

It is useful to begin with at least one math and verbal exam. If you have seen the movie Forrest Gump, then you may know life may be like a box of chocolates, but for the SHSAT you should be able to know what is inside to study more efficiently. As a result, we have broken out all exams into difficulty levels. Those students who are advanced and have previous SHSAT experience may opt to begin at the “More Difficult” exam level while newer students may want to start at “Easier” and work their way up. See the “By Difficulty” tab below. Next view a few instruction units on topics you think you may know and a couple on material you know needs practice. Take the related practice drills. There is a good chance you will learn some new SHSAT related tips even from familiar topics.

Navigate by Menus or by Pages

Most everything in the top level menus is also available on the respective page. Click “Exams” at the top and you will see the following Exams page. All the material and content available from right clicking the menus as shown is also on the page itself and now even a little more. This season we have made an effort to connect the exams page to some of the most useful related reports like My Exams and Diagnostics shown by the purple buttons on the exam pages. In addition, the Student Dashboard pulls together your performance statistics, access to exams and drills. all the related reports, and general account information in one place for the user to drive with added ease, but focused studies (see further below for Dashboard details).

By Difficulty

Aside from seeing the different types of exams, select the By Difficulty tab shown below and all exams will be organized into Easy, Medium, and More Difficult levels and you can see the average scores for each exam. In addition, all the exam and problem set questions are organized into difficulty levels based on your experience level. Hopefully, this will help you choose where to start and even where to go next.

Easy Link from Exams to Related Reports

As you peruse the Exams page in search of the next exam to take, you may wish to check how you have performed on different exams so far and possibly even dig into past exam reports to review specific questions and answers in each exam. Navigate to “My Exams” to see your past exams scores and choose View for each completed exam to see the full grade report. Easy performance charts and accessible grade reports for every question and every exam you take!  In this way, we hope to make it easier for you to assess how you are doing on exams and quickly dig into the details. But that is not all.

By Skill Category

At this point you have taken a few exams and drills and have enough data history to get a detailed assessment of how you perform in each skill for the SHSAT. Let’s help you explore how to identify and focus on your weakest areas.

One approach is to take the subscriber course which offers over 60+ skill diagnostic exams (essentially all the skills required for the SHSAT exam) and requires students to pass 5 levels of mastery to demonstrate understanding and the ability to execute each skill. Next, within the course or separately, students can do practice drills or take exam problems by question category. Focus on your problem areas without wasting time repeating the topics you already know. Study more effectively!

Track your Results by Skill

Do you have weak areas in need of further study and practice? Everyone does. Identify them and get your scores up. Links to the appropriate reports like Skills By Category will show users how to track their performance in every category. As a result, users can choose to review previous mistakes in certain categories or practice new questions in a given category in order to improve. Either way, you receive objective diagnostics and performance measurements as well as the tools to study efficiently and better your scores!

Subscriber SHSAT Courses – Math & Verbal

The subscriber SHSAT math and verbal courses are included in your subscription; no extra charge. They organize the Classroom instruction units and the Practice Drills into a structured course that allows you to learn and get ready for the SHSAT without having to spend much effort figuring out what to do next. Also, included are additional diagnostic exams, tutoring class snippets to offer added suggestions, and related third party content so don’t miss out. Make the most of your opportunity and enroll in the included subscriber courses at no extra charge. Note, the Exams are separate, added content and questions that are not included in the course so make sure to periodically assess your progress through the course by taking SHSAT exams. If you put in the effort and still need a boost, then you can always fill your tanks by signing up for the live, online math or verbal tutoring classes.
