Why It Matters
The Case for Expert SHSAT Prep
The students who prepare systematically outperform those who don’t by a significant margin.
2–3x Higher Admission Rates
Students who complete a structured SHSAT prep program are admitted at 2–3 times the rate of unprepared students. With ~28,000 students competing for ~4,000 seats, preparation is the difference.
Get Ahead on 8th Grade Math
Much of the SHSAT Math — algebra, geometry, advanced problem solving — isn’t fully taught until 8th grade. Starting in 7th grade gives students months of critical head start over their classmates.
The Test Is Now Adaptive
Starting fall 2026, the SHSAT is a Computer-Adaptive Test. Questions adjust to each answer in real time. Students cannot go back on Math questions. Familiarity with this format through practice is essential.
Proven Results Since 2014
Over a decade of SHSAT prep gives us deep insight into exactly what the test rewards. Our Socratic method produces deeper retention and stronger test-day performance than rote memorization.
What Parents Are Saying
My daughter went from not knowing what the SHSAT even was to scoring high enough for Bronx Science. The instructors knew exactly where she was struggling and the Socratic approach meant she actually understood the material — not just memorized it. Worth every penny.
My son started prep in 7th grade not knowing any algebra. By the time he took the test he was solving problems his classmates had never seen. The summer intensive was challenging but incredibly well structured — he got into Brooklyn Tech and we couldn’t be happier.

What Is the New Digital SHSAT?
Everything NYC families need to know — updated with the latest from the NYC Department of Education.
All current 8th and first-time 9th grade NYC residents planning to apply to a specialized high school. Public, private, parochial, charter, and homeschooled students are all eligible. No GPA requirements needed.
Administered each fall — October and November for 8th graders, December for 9th graders. Registration opens September via myschools.nyc. Results released the following March.
180 minutes total. ELA (57 questions) and Math (57 questions) = 114 total. Of these, 20 are unscored experimental questions. No penalty for wrong answers — always answer every question.
Starting fall 2026, a Computer-Adaptive Test — questions adjust to each prior answer. On Math, students cannot go back after submitting. ELA passage sets allow review within the set only.
Raw score converted to a scaled composite score (max ~700). Offers made in descending score order matched to ranked school preferences. Lowest admitted score becomes that year’s cutoff.
Register via school counselor or at myschools.nyc. Rank up to 8 schools in order of preference. Tests taken on DOE computers at home school or a designated weekend site in any of the 5 boroughs.
8 Tested Specialized High Schools
9 specialized high schools total — 8 admit via SHSAT. 2026 cutoff scores, 8th grade applicants.
