Why the SSAT Matters

The Gold Standard for Private School Admissions

The SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) is accepted by over 1,000 independent schools across the United States and worldwide. Administered by the Enrollment Management Association, it is the leading admissions assessment for students applying to private and independent schools in grades 4–12 — and a defining factor in competitive high school admissions decisions.

1,000+
independent schools worldwide accept SSAT scores
From elite New England boarding schools to top day schools across the US, the SSAT is the standard benchmark for the most selective independent schools.
~3hrs

3 hours and 10 minutes with breaks. Pacing and stamina are critical — the SSAT tests your ability to think clearly under sustained pressure.
1500–2400
composite score range — 500–800 per section, percentiles 1–99
Top schools look for 85th–99th percentile. A ¼ point is deducted per wrong answer — strategic guessing and pacing are essential skills.

Our Philosophy

We Teach for Life — Not Just for the Test

The SSAT is a reasoning test as much as a content test. Vocabulary depth, logical analogy thinking, and reading inference skills are built through genuine intellectual engagement — not memorization. Our Socratic approach develops exactly these skills.

🧠

Vocabulary & Reasoning, Not Memorization

The SSAT Verbal section rewards students with deep vocabulary and strong analogical thinking — skills built through reading and reasoning, not vocabulary lists alone. Our Socratic method pushes students to think about words, relationships, and logic rather than memorize definitions.

🕑

Strategic Guessing & Pacing

Unlike the ISEE and HSPT, the SSAT deducts ¼ point per wrong answer. This makes strategic guessing essential. We train students to make confident decisions under time pressure — when to attempt, when to skip, and how to manage 3+ hours of sustained focus.

📈

Diagnostic-Driven Instruction

Every student begins with a diagnostic across all three scored sections. We target the specific vocabulary gaps, quantitative weaknesses, and reading passage types that are holding your student’s percentile back. No wasted sessions.

🏗

Expert Instructors

Our online platform allows us to bring the best SSAT instructors to your student regardless of location — including instructors who attended the exact schools your student is targeting and know what top-percentile performance looks like.

What Parents Are Saying

The Verbal section was our biggest challenge. My daughter’s analogy scores were dragging her percentile into the 60s. After eight weeks she was hitting the 93rd percentile consistently. What changed wasn’t just vocabulary — it was how she thought about relationships between words. The Socratic approach made that difference.

★★★★★

My son kept losing points on the SSAT because he was guessing too aggressively. The instructors taught him a precise framework for when to attempt and when to skip. His score jumped nearly 150 composite points in six weeks. At $400 a month for this level of personalized instruction, we could not have gotten better value anywhere.
